BHUTAN Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas’ is known for its monasteries and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. Bhutan has some of the High Himalayas peaks such as Jomolhari which is popular for trekking destinations and Paro Taktsang monastery also known as Tiger’s Nest which clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley which looks amazing. Tourism in Bhutan began in 1974, when the Government of Bhutan, in an effort to raise its revenue and to promote the country’s unique culture and traditions to the outside world, opened its country to foreigners. where 287 tourists visited Bhutan. Since then the number of tourists visiting Bhutan has increased to 2,850 in 1992, rising dramatically to 7,158 in 1999.
