Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas’ is known for its monasteries and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. Bhutan has some of the High Himalayas peaks such as Jomolhari which is popular for trekking destinations and Paro Taktsang monastery also known as Tiger’s Nest which clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley which looks amazing.
Tourism in Bhutan began in 1974, when the Government of Bhutan, in an effort to raise its revenue and to promote the country’s unique culture and traditions to the outside world, opened its country to foreigners. where 287 tourists visited Bhutan. Since then the number of tourists visiting Bhutan has increased to 2,850 in 1992, rising dramatically to 7,158 in 1999. By the late 1990s tourism contributed more then 2 million US dollar in annual revenue. Today tourism is 2nd highest revenue contributor after Hydro Power.
So, there is many places to visit in Bhutan but here I am going to give some of the best places where many tourist visit or it is a place which holds lots of value to Bhutanese.

1. Paro Taktsang
- Paro Taktsang also known as Tiger Nest Temple is one of the most recognized tourist attraction in Paro. The beauty of the place holds an extraordinary significance. Tiger Nest was built in the 1692. The legends believe that Guru Rinpoche flew to site while riding on a back of flying Tigress.
- It is built on a cliff approximately 900 meters off of the ground, the Tiger Nest today has become a popular sites in Bhutan. You can enjoy short hike towards Tiger nest as it is only way to get there as no vehicle can move towards Paro Taktsang.
2. Buddha Dordenma Statue
- As you climb Kuenselpodrag nature park in Thimphu, the view of gigantic statue of Lord Buddha, which is very popular in our country can be seen. The Buddha Dordenma statue is one of the most beautiful sight in Bhutan to come across. The enormous statue of Lord Buddha baffles everybody with its size, Its sits at a height of 51.5 meter's, which makes it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The throne upon which he seated is a large meditation hall.
- Around more then 1000 visit Buddha Dordenma to see a magnificent view unlike anything in this world. So, do visit this place if you ever come to Bhutan.
3. Phobjikha Valley
- is an enormous U- shaped valley bordering black-naked cranes which are found during winters. This place celebrates thrilling festivals which is held every year, Tsechu and crane festival. Phobjikha offers us a views of beautiful valleys, marshy land and grassy pastures. In Phobjikha you can also visit Jigme Singye Wangchuck national park where you can find wildlife like wild boars, black-naked cranes, Himalayas black bears and etc..
- Other attraction site you can visit in Phobjikha are Gangte Goemba, Nyelung Dechenling, Khurung Lhakang and etc..
This are some of the best place that I recommend you to visit but there is many other places which is as beautiful as this places. Such as Memorial chorten which is built in a memory of Druk gyelpo coronation, Various national park to see different wildlife and you can always visit different monasteries and dzongs which is very unique and by seeing it you can see how much value a Bhutanese give to culture and traditional.
